Product Description

Product Overview

The Vickers by Danfoss V and VQ Series are fixed-displacement Intravane vane pumps engineered for demanding mobile and industrial hydraulic applications. Danfoss describes the VQ family as a high-reliability fixed-displacement pump platform using an intra-vane cartridge design intended to improve operating life, volumetric efficiency and serviceability. The V Series technical documentation adds hydraulic balancing, low-noise operation, compact packaging and single/double/thru-drive configurations.

The supplied products correspond to three different configurations:

  • 2520VQ21C1411CC20 — Vickers VQ Mobile Double Vane Pump
  • 3520V25A14-1CC-22-R — Vickers V Series Industrial Double Vane Pump
  • 4535V-60A32-86CC22R — Vickers V Series Industrial Double Vane Pump

These products must not be treated as having identical performance limits. The VQ mobile configuration uses higher maximum speed on the 2520 frame, while the industrial V Series uses the 1800 rpm class. Individual cartridge displacement, pressure rating, shaft configuration, port orientation and rotation code must all be verified.

A double vane pump allows two independent fixed-displacement cartridges to operate from a common input shaft. Danfoss/Vickers also requires the combined torque of simultaneously loaded cartridges to remain within the allowable input torque of the selected shaft.

Our replacement solution is based on in-place interchangeability, with dimensional matching and 100% simulated working-condition testing before shipment.

The published Danfoss documentation does not specify exact housing alloy grades for these configurations, so no unsupported material grade is claimed.

Control Type and Operating Principle

  • Control Type: Fixed Displacement
  • Pump Architecture: Intravane Vane Pump
  • Configuration: Double Pump
  • Hydraulic Function: Two independent fixed-displacement pumping sections driven by one input shaft
  • Flow Generation: Determined by cartridge displacement and input speed
  • Pressure Capability: Determined by frame size, cartridge displacement, fluid and duty cycle
  • Rotation: Determined by the complete ordering code
  • Service Architecture: Cartridge-based maintenance

Vickers by Danfoss identifies hydraulic balancing, 12-vane operation, high volumetric efficiency and low noise as important characteristics of the V Series design.

Key Technical Advantages

1. Intravane Cartridge Design

The Intravane cartridge is the central design feature of the V/VQ platform. Danfoss states that the VQ version uses an intra-vane cartridge design to improve operating life, volumetric efficiency and serviceability.

2. Hydraulic Pressure Balancing

Hydraulic balancing is designed to reduce internally generated radial loads on the shaft and bearings, supporting longer component life under demanding operating conditions.

3. Twelve-Vane Low-Noise Operation

The V Series uses a twelve-vane arrangement designed to reduce flow-pulsation amplitude and system noise. Danfoss specifies measured sound levels under defined laboratory conditions and notes that simultaneous loading of both sections of a double pump typically increases sound by approximately 1–3 dB(A).

4. High Volumetric Efficiency

Danfoss documentation describes volumetric efficiency above 90% for the V Series product platform. Actual field efficiency depends on pressure, speed, oil viscosity, temperature and internal leakage.

5. High Power Density

The V Series is designed to deliver high operating pressure in a compact package, improving power-to-weight ratio and allowing double-pump configurations to reduce installation space.

6. Two Independent Hydraulic Outputs

The three configurations in this product group demonstrate different dual-circuit combinations:

  • 2520VQ21C1411CC20: 67.7 + 45.6 cm³/rev
  • 3520V25A14-1CC-22-R: 81.0 + 45.6 cm³/rev
  • 4535V-60A32-86CC22R: 193.0 + historical 100.0 cm³/rev

This arrangement allows two hydraulic circuits to share one mechanical drive input where system architecture permits.

7. Cartridge Serviceability

The cartridge design allows field service and flow-capacity changes without necessarily removing the entire pump from its mounting. This is particularly valuable for production equipment and mobile machinery where downtime is costly.

8. Configurable Port Orientation

The Vickers ordering code provides multiple outlet-port orientation options, enabling hydraulic connections to be optimized for installation geometry.

9. Heavy-Duty Shaft Options

The platform includes straight keyed, heavy-duty keyed and splined shaft configurations. The 4535V-60A32-86CC22R uses shaft code 86, identified in the Vickers technical documentation as a heavy-duty keyed shaft.

10. Replacement Engineering and 100% Testing

Our replacement process focuses on complete interface matching instead of series-level substitution only. Each applicable pump can be verified through pressure, flow, RPM, rotation, leakage and dual-section load testing under simulated working conditions.

Application Areas

Mobile Hydraulic Applications

Danfoss identifies the VQ series for applications including:

  • Wheel Loaders
  • Lift Trucks
  • Refuse Trucks
  • Aerial Booms

Industrial Hydraulic Applications

The V Series is positioned for industrial applications such as:

  • Hydraulic power units
  • Industrial presses
  • Injection molding machinery
  • Material-handling equipment
  • Machine tools
  • Auxiliary hydraulic circuits
  • Conveyor systems
  • Heavy-duty hydraulic machinery

The double-pump architecture is especially useful where two separate hydraulic circuits must be supplied from one mechanical input.

Expert Maintenance Tips

1. Verify Combined Shaft Torque

When both cartridges are loaded simultaneously, the combined torque must remain below the allowable torque for the selected input shaft. This check is explicitly required in the Vickers engineering documentation.

2. Prefer Direct Coaxial Drive

Vickers recommends direct coaxial drive using spline connections and/or flexible couplings. Applications that impose significant radial or axial shaft loads require specific engineering review.

3. Control Mounting Alignment

Vickers specifies mounting-pad alignment requirements, including pilot concentricity within approximately 0.10 mm TIR and defined mounting-face squareness relative to the drive axis.

4. Prime the Pump Before Initial Start

The suction circuit should be properly sealed and the pump filled with hydraulic oil before initial operation. If the pump does not immediately prime, trapped air should be removed from the delivery line.

5. Keep Inlet Pressure Within Limits

The V Series documentation specifies a maximum inlet pressure of 1.4 bar / 20 psi. Excessive inlet restriction, undersized suction lines or poor reservoir conditions can lead to cavitation and noise.

6. Control Oil Viscosity and Temperature

Vickers recommends appropriate anti-wear hydraulic oils and provides viscosity and temperature limits. Under rated conditions, viscosity should remain within the specified operating range, while system temperature should normally remain below approximately 99°C / 210°F to protect cartridges and elastomers.

7. Maintain Filtration

Full-flow filtration should be used to maintain the required hydraulic-fluid cleanliness. Contamination can accelerate wear of the vane, ring, flex-plate and other cartridge working surfaces.

8. Reduce Load During Cold Starts

At low temperatures and high fluid viscosity, Vickers recommends limiting speed and pressure to 50% or less of their rated values until the hydraulic system warms up.

9. Confirm the Legacy 4535V-60A32 Configuration

The current Danfoss V Series model-code table does not separately list cover code 32, while historical Vickers H-4535V documentation identifies code 32 as 100.0 cm³/rev. For procurement or replacement, confirm the original nameplate and dimensional configuration rather than relying on the series designation alone.
