Product Description
Product Overview
The MFB10-UY-31 is a mid-range displacement model from Eaton Vickers’ (formerly Sperry Vickers) MFB series of axial piston fixed displacement inline motors, featuring a displacement of 21.12 cm³/rev (1.29 in³/rev), MFB10 frame size, U-type bidirectional rotation configuration (U = Either direction), Y-type standard shaft, and 31 design number. The MFB series is Eaton Vickers’ classic swashplate-type axial piston fixed displacement motor platform, offering five torque ratings with speeds from 100 to 3600 rpm and pressures up to 210 bar (3000 psi).
MFB series motors are of axial piston, fixed displacement, inline design, operable in either direction of rotation. MFB motors are variable horsepower—horsepower being approximately proportional to rpm with a given constant operating pressure. Service may be continuous, intermittent, continuous reversing, or stalled without damage when properly protected by a relief valve. The MFB10-UY-31 delivers 32.1 N·m (284 lb·in) rated torque and 64.2 N·m (568 lb·in) maximum torque at a weight of only 9.5 kg (21 lbs), achieving high power density in a compact package.
Every MFB10-UY-31 unit undergoes 100% simulated operating-condition bench testing prior to shipment. Mounting flange, shaft end and port dimensions comply with Eaton Vickers standards and are identical to the original MFB10 series, ensuring true drop-in interchangeability with zero modification required.

Key Technical Advantages
1. High Volumetric and Overall Efficiency for Superior Energy Savings
The MFB10-UY-31 employs Eaton Vickers’ classic axial piston swashplate design, with a hydrodynamic oil film forming between pistons and swashplate to effectively reduce friction losses. Overall operating efficiency can be as high as 93% and volumetric efficiency as high as 97% (depending on motor size, pressure, speed, fluid viscosity and temperature), leading among comparable fixed displacement piston motors. High efficiency means lower energy loss and heat generation, offering significant economic advantages in long-term continuous industrial hydraulic systems.
2. Wide Speed Range and Excellent Low-Speed Capability
The MFB10-UY-31 supports a wide speed range from 50 rpm to 3200 rpm, with speed ranges of at least 36:1 possible at the maximum torque rating. Minimum speed can vary between 50 and 100 rpm depending on motor size and drive load characteristics. This wide speed range enables flexible adaptation from low-speed high-torque winch drives to high-speed cooling fan drives without additional reduction gearing.
3. Compact and Lightweight Design for High Power Density
The MFB10-UY-31 employs an inline axial piston design, achieving high power density in a compact package. High speeds, pressures and efficiencies give Eaton Vickers inline piston motors power density—the result is high performance in a compact package that requires minimum installation space. With a weight of only 9.5 kg, low inertia and fast dynamic response, it is particularly suitable for mobile equipment with strict weight and installation space requirements.
4. Bidirectional Rotation and Versatile Operating Modes
The MFB10-UY-31 rotation can be reversed simply by reversing the direction of flow through the motor ports, without any internal modification. The U-type configuration (Either direction) supports bidirectional rotation. When properly protected by a relief valve, the motor can operate continuously, intermittently, continuously reversing, or stalled without damage, providing versatile service modes.
5. 100% Simulated Load Testing & Drop-In Interchangeability
Each MFB10-UY-31 unit is bench-tested under simulated operating conditions prior to dispatch, covering pressure cycling, speed stepping and volumetric efficiency verification. Mounting flange, shaft end and port dimensions comply with Eaton Vickers standards, matching the original MFB10 series exactly, enabling direct replacement without any interface modification.

Expert Maintenance Tips
1. Housing Priming Before First Startup: Before starting, fill the motor case with system fluid through the uppermost drain port. Housing must be kept full at all times to provide internal lubrication. An unprimed housing causes dry friction at startup, severely damaging the piston group and swashplate mechanism. After extended shutdown, fill the housing again before restarting.
2. Drain Line Management: The case drain line must be full size and unrestricted, connected from the uppermost drain port directly to the reservoir in such a manner that the housing remains filled with fluid. The piping of the drain line must prevent siphoning. The drain line should terminate below the reservoir fluid level. No other lines are to be connected to the drain line. Unit case pressure must never exceed 0.35 bar (5 psi).
3. Mounting Attitude and Coupling Alignment: Horizontal mounting is recommended to maintain the necessary case fluid level. Ensure coupling alignment deviation does not exceed 0.05 mm during installation to prevent abnormal bearing wear and shaft seal leakage. Tighten flange or foot mounting bolts evenly in a diagonal sequence to Eaton Vickers technical manual torque values.
4. Oil Cleanliness and Viscosity Control: Maintain system oil cleanliness at ISO 4406 18/16/13 or better. Anti-wear type petroleum oil is recommended with viscosity range of 100–250 SUS under operating conditions, not exceeding 1000 SUS at startup. Recommended operating temperature range is 38°C to 66°C (10°F to 150°F); with proper application and fluid consideration, a greater temperature range is permissible. Replace hydraulic oil and filter after the first 500 hours, then follow a 2,000-hour or annual replacement cycle.
5. Periodic Piston Group and Swashplate Inspection: The MFB10’s piston group, valve plate and swashplate are primary wear components. Inspect piston-to-cylinder bore clearance, slipper wear and swashplate working surface condition every 2,000 hours. Abnormal efficiency loss, noise or vibration requires immediate shutdown and service. Use Eaton Vickers original specification parts when replacing piston groups to ensure fit accuracy and assembly torque per technical manual requirements.
