Product Description
Product Overview
The Kawasaki Precision Machinery K3VL45/B-1NRSM-P0/1-E0 is a 45 cm³/rev variable displacement swash-plate axial piston pump designed for open-circuit hydraulic systems.
The K3VL family is designed for medium- and high-pressure construction, off-highway, industrial and marine applications. Kawasaki specifies 320 bar continuous rated pressure and 350 bar peak pressure, with multiple control options including pressure cut-off, load sensing, torque limiting and electronic displacement control.
The standardized model code is:
K3VL45/B-1NRSM-P0/1-E0
The original listing used PO and EO. Kawasaki’s official coding system uses P0 and E0 with the digit zero. The code identifies an open-circuit K3VL45 pump with a side-ported steel cover, clockwise rotation, SAE spline mounting, metric threads, pressure cut-off, torque limiting and E0 electronic displacement control.
For replacement applications, our engineering process is based on complete Type Code matching and in-place interchangeability, followed by 100% simulated working-condition testing of pressure response, displacement control, flow, leakage and temperature behavior.

Model Code Engineering Interpretation
K3VL45
45 cm³/rev nominal displacement class. The official K3VL technical data specify 320 bar rated pressure and 350 bar peak pressure for this frame size.
B
B Series design.
1N
1= open circuitN= single pump with steel cover, side ported.
R
Clockwise rotation when viewed from the shaft end.
S
SAE spline and mounting arrangement.
M
Metric port threads.
P0
Pressure Cut-Off.
As delivery pressure rises to the cut-off setting, the swash plate destrokes to prevent the system pressure from exceeding the compensator setting. Kawasaki also states that a separate safety relief valve must be installed in the system.
/1
Torque Limiting provision.
As delivery pressure rises, the swash-plate angle is reduced to restrict input torque and help prevent excessive loading of the prime mover.
E0
Electrical Displacement Control.
The input current to the proportional pressure reducing valve controls pump displacement. Increasing the current increases displacement proportionally. Kawasaki specifies a required 40 bar pilot pressure for E0 operation.
Key Technical Advantages
1. Electronic Displacement Control with Pressure Cut-Off
The combination of P0 and E0 allows the pump to receive an electronic displacement command while retaining pressure cut-off protection. This is more sophisticated than a basic fixed pressure-compensated configuration and is particularly useful in electronically controlled hydraulic systems.
2. Torque Limiting for Prime-Mover Protection
The /1 function reduces displacement as delivery pressure rises, limiting input torque and helping prevent excessive loading of the engine or electric motor.
3. 320 Bar Continuous / 350 Bar Peak Capability
Kawasaki specifies 320 bar continuous rated pressure and 350 bar peak pressure. Peak pressure is an instantaneous surge rating and should not be treated as a continuous operating-pressure target.
4. High-Speed Capability
K3VL45 provides a 2,700 rpm maximum self-priming speed and a 3,250 rpm boosted maximum speed when the required inlet-pressure conditions are met.
5. High Efficiency and Low Pulsation
Kawasaki lists greater than 90% peak overall efficiency, high power-to-weight ratio, low pulsation, low noise emissions and highly responsive control as K3VL family characteristics.
6. SAE Spline Mounting
The S mounting/shaft designation provides an SAE spline-based mechanical interface. For replacement work, this must be matched together with shaft geometry, flange, rotation and the exact controller configuration.
7. Responsive Electronic Control Architecture
Kawasaki’s E0 regulator provides electrical proportional displacement control. The system therefore allows hydraulic output to be integrated with an electronic machine-control strategy, provided the specified pilot pressure and electrical characteristics are maintained.
Application Areas
Kawasaki identifies the K3VL family for a broad range of construction, off-highway, industrial and marine machinery, including:
- Excavators
- Wheel loaders
- Crawler drills and pile drivers
- Crawler and rough-terrain cranes
- Truck-mounted cranes
- Concrete pumps
- Crushers
- Asphalt pavers
- Forklift trucks
- Manlifts
- Forestry machinery
- Plastic machinery and die-casting equipment
- Press machines
- Waste-treatment equipment
- Marine and offshore machinery.
The original title describes the product as an excavator hydraulic pump. Excavators are indeed among Kawasaki’s documented K3VL applications, but the K3VL45 itself is a broader off-highway/industrial pump platform rather than an excavator-only component.
Expert Maintenance Tips
1. Provide the Correct E0 Pilot Pressure
E0 requires approximately 40 bar pilot pressure, with Kawasaki specifying 50 bar maximum. Insufficient pilot pressure can prevent the electrical displacement command from producing the intended swash-plate response.
2. Use 24 V DC for E0
The E0 regulator is specified for 24 V DC and a 700 mA rated current. It should not be confused with the 12 V E3 configuration.
3. Calibrate the Complete E0 Response
Do not validate E0 only by checking whether the solenoid energizes. A proper commissioning test should correlate:
command current → pilot pressure → displacement → flow → system pressure
while also checking P0 cut-off and torque-limiter behavior.
4. Verify Inlet Conditions at High Speed
Kawasaki specifies a steady-state absolute inlet pressure of at least 0.9 bar for maximum self-priming speed operation and at least 1.3 bar absolute for maximum boosted speed operation. Boost pressure must not exceed 10 bar.
5. Keep Case Pressure Low
K3VL45 case pressure must remain below 1 bar continuous and 4 bar peak. Drain-line restriction should therefore be minimized.
6. Minimize External Shaft Loading
Kawasaki notes that external thrust and radial shaft loads reduce bearing life depending on load magnitude, position and direction. Check coupling alignment, spline engagement and PTO installation before commissioning.
7. Maintain Hydraulic Cleanliness
Kawasaki specifies a maximum contamination level of ISO 4406 18/15, a viscosity range of 10–1,000 cSt and an operating temperature range of -20°C to 95°C. At viscosities of 200–1,000 cSt, no-load warm-up is required before full-scale operation.
