Product Description
Product Overview
The 109 Series is the complete model family of Eaton/Char-Lynn 4000 Series low-speed high-torque geroler hydraulic motors, spanning displacements from 162.2 cm³/rev to 311.8 cm³/rev. Core models include the 109-1116-006 (162.2 cm³/rev), 109-1118-006 (246.3 cm³/rev), 109-1119-006 (311.8 cm³/rev), and 109-1105-006 (311.8 cm³/rev).
The 4000 Series features disc valve distribution and Geroler roller-stator design — the highest-performance configuration in the Char-Lynn product line, capable of delivering more than 40 hp in a compact package. Every unit undergoes 100% simulated load-condition bench testing before shipment. Each model is a direct drop-in replacement for its Eaton/Char-Lynn 4000 Series OEM counterpart, with fully interchangeable mounting flange, shaft, and port locations.

Key Technical Advantages
1. Disc Valve Technology — Lowest Pressure Drop in the Industry
The core technical advantage of the 4000 Series is its disc valve distribution design. Eaton officially describes it as the “lowest pressure drop motor in the industry” — the disc valve structure significantly reduces throttling losses during oil distribution compared to conventional shaft-distribution designs, substantially improving system energy efficiency. The valve plate and rotor end face feature automatic wear compensation, maintaining tight contact and stable volumetric efficiency over extended service life.
2. High-Efficiency Geroler Roller-Stator for Energy Savings
The 4000 Series employs a precision Geroler roller-stator set in which rolling columns travel along the stator curve, dramatically reducing internal friction losses compared to conventional gear-type configurations. Combined with the disc valve’s low pressure drop, the motor maintains superior volumetric and mechanical efficiency under rated conditions, delivering measurable energy savings for equipment builders.
3. Double-Row Tapered Roller Bearings for High Shaft Load Capacity
The 4000 Series output shaft is supported by double-row tapered roller bearings, providing high side-load capability. This design allows the motor to directly drive chain sprockets, gears, and other mechanisms subject to significant radial forces without additional bearing housings. On mid-displacement models such as the 109-1118-006, the bearing assembly is precision-matched and preloaded for stable operation under continuous heavy-duty loading.
4. High Power Density in a Compact Package
The Eaton 4000 Series delivers more than 40 hp in a compact package, achieving a power density that leads its class. The cast iron housing provides excellent rigidity and durability, while the standardized SAE B 4-bolt mounting flange and multiple shaft options (keyed, splined) allow flexible adaptation across different drive requirements within the series.
Application Areas

Material Handling: Conveyor drives, winch and hoist mechanisms
Industrial Drives: Specialty production line rotary mechanisms, drill power head drives
Expert Maintenance Tips
Installation Guidelines:
Before installation, verify system oil cleanliness meets ISO 18/13 or better. The disc valve face is sensitive to particulate contamination — install a 10μm filter upstream of the motor inlet.
The 109-1105-006 uses a straight keyed shaft for direct sprocket or gear drive applications. The 109-1116-006, 109-1118-006, and 109-1119-006 use 14-tooth splined shafts for higher torque transmission. Ensure shaft alignment within 0.05mm and use a flexible coupling.
The 4000 Series includes a standard case drain port (with check valve). Route the drain line separately back to the reservoir, maintaining case pressure below 1500 psi. During initial commissioning, a one-hour break-in at 30% of rated pressure is recommended before full load application.
Operational Maintenance:
Normal operating oil temperature should not exceed 82°C (180°F). Monitor case temperature regularly; if abnormally high, prioritize checking distribution face wear or system internal leakage.
Use premium anti-wear hydraulic oil with viscosity maintained at 70 SSU (Saybolt Universal Seconds).
Inspect volumetric efficiency every 2,000 hours or every 12 months. If efficiency drops by more than 10% of rated value, disassemble and inspect the disc valve plate and Geroler roller-stator assembly.
