Product Description

Product Overview

The Casappa PLP30-22 is a fixed-displacement external gear pump from the POLARIS 30 series. According to Casappa’s official technical documentation, the PLP30-22 provides a geometric displacement of 21.99 cm³/rev, a maximum continuous operating pressure of 250 bar, system pressure of 270 bar, peak pressure of 280 bar, and a maximum speed of 3,000 rpm.

The customer-specified code PLP30-22S0-41E3-LED/EB-N corresponds to the following configuration:

  • PLP 30·22: 21.99 cm³/rev displacement
  • S: Left-hand rotation
  • 0: Without outboard bearing
  • 41: Straight drive shaft
  • E3: European mounting flange
  • L: Side port position
  • ED/EB: European flanged ports
  • N: Buna-N standard seals

The Polaris design uses an external gear architecture with an aluminium-alloy gear housing, gear wheels supported by sleeve bearings, and front/rear end plates. Casappa specifies the series for applications requiring consistent efficiency, compact construction and controlled noise emission throughout service life.

For replacement projects, the critical selection criteria are not limited to displacement. Rotation, shaft configuration, mounting flange, port standard and seal configuration must also be matched. Our replacement units can be supplied with in-place interchangeability as the engineering target and subjected to 100% simulated working-condition testing before shipment.

  • Seal Material: N = Buna-N / NBR
  • Control Method: Fixed displacement; no variable-displacement control mechanism
  • Theoretical Flow at 3,000 rpm: approximately 65.97 L/min, calculated from Casappa’s Qtheor = V × n / 1000 relationship; actual flow depends on volumetric efficiency and operating conditions.
  • Weight: Not published as a separate value for this complete configuration in the public Casappa Polaris catalog; verify against the physical unit or packing documentation rather than using an estimated value.

Casappa defines p1, p2 and p3 differently: p1 is the continuous operating limit, p2 is the system/relief-valve setting reference, and p3 is the maximum permissible peak pressure associated with relief-valve overshoot. Therefore, 280 bar must not be treated as a continuous operating pressure.

Key Technical Advantages

1. Stable Fixed-Displacement Output

With a geometric displacement of 21.99 cm³/rev, the PLP30-22 provides predictable theoretical flow proportional to shaft speed. This makes it well suited to hydraulic systems where a mechanically simple and repeatable flow source is preferred.

2. High-Pressure Capability

The official rating of 250 bar continuous pressure, 270 bar system pressure, and 280 bar peak pressure places the PLP30-22 within the high-pressure capability range of the POLARIS 30 family. Actual application selection should still consider duty cycle, temperature, pressure duration and transient frequency.

3. Compact External Gear Construction

Casappa’s Polaris architecture combines an aluminium-alloy gear housing, sleeve-supported gears and end plates in a compact three-piece external gear pump design. This construction supports a broad range of shaft, flange and port configurations.

4. Standardized Mechanical Interface

The specified configuration combines a European E3 mounting flange, straight shaft 41, and ED/EB European flanged ports. Such standardized mechanical interfaces simplify dimensional matching during pump replacement and machine maintenance.

5. Broad Operating Speed Range

The official PLP30-22 data specifies a maximum speed of 3,000 rpm and a minimum speed of 350 rpm, supporting a wide range of mobile and industrial hydraulic drive conditions. Operating limits should still be evaluated together with inlet pressure, viscosity and load conditions.

6. Engineering-Oriented Replacement Matching

A technically correct replacement cannot be selected by searching only for “PLP30” or “22 cc gear pump.” The complete configuration—including S rotation, 0 outboard-bearing option, 41 straight shaft, E3 flange, L side ports, ED/EB porting and N seals—must be checked to achieve true mechanical interchangeability.

Application Areas

Casappa identifies the Polaris product family for a range of mobile and industrial applications, including:

  • Construction machinery
  • Material-handling equipment
  • Agricultural machinery
  • Forestry machinery
  • Turf-care and mower equipment
  • Hydraulic fan-drive systems
  • Mobile hydraulic power units
  • General high-pressure hydraulic systems

For replacement applications, engineers should verify the original pump’s displacement, rotation, flange, shaft profile, port standard and operating-pressure cycle before ordering.

Expert Maintenance Tips

1. Start at Minimum Speed and Pressure

Before commissioning, verify hose connections, system cleanliness and oil level. Casappa recommends filling the system through filtered oil, setting the relief valve to the lowest possible pressure, starting the pump briefly at minimum speed, bleeding the circuit, and then gradually increasing speed and pressure.

2. Maintain Proper Inlet Pressure

The Polaris documentation specifies a pump inlet pressure range of 0.7–3 bar absolute. For inlet pressure above 1.5 bar absolute, specific shaft-sealing arrangements may be required.

3. Maintain Hydraulic Cleanliness

Casappa provides progressively stricter fluid cleanliness recommendations as differential pressure increases. For example, below 140 bar differential pressure, the recommended cleanliness class is ISO 4406 21/19/16; higher differential-pressure conditions require cleaner oil.

4. Use Proper Shaft Alignment

The pump shaft and drive shaft must be correctly aligned. Casappa recommends flexible couplings rather than rigid couplings to prevent excessive radial or axial loading of the shaft and bearing system.

5. Protect the Shaft Seal Area

Keep the shaft-seal region clean and free from abrasive contamination. Dust and abrasive particles can accelerate seal wear and eventually cause external leakage, particularly in construction and forestry environments.
