Product Description

Product Overview

The Parker Torqmotor™ TB Series is the light-duty low-speed high-torque (LSHT) gerotor hydraulic motor family from Parker Hannifin, spanning 15 displacements from TB0036 (36 cm³/rev) to TB0390 (392 cm³/rev). Featuring roller vane rotor set technology and a zero-leak commutation valve, the TB Series delivers superior side load capacity, a high-pressure shaft seal, and smooth extra-low-speed operation — ideal for conveyors, gear boxes, winches, and boom rotate applications.

The TB Series’ most significant design innovation is the complete elimination of external case drain requirements. Conventional orbit motors require a dedicated drain circuit to return case leakage to the reservoir. The TB Series employs a patented high-pressure shaft seal with continuous oil flow internal cooling and flushing, naturally balancing case pressure without the need for external drains, check valves, or extra plumbing — directly reducing hose, fitting, and installation labor costs for machine builders.

This series is a direct drop-in replacement for Parker Torqmotor™ TB Series OEM motors of matching specification, with fully interchangeable mounting flange, shaft, and port locations. Every unit undergoes 100% simulated load-condition bench testing before shipment, covering continuous pressure, intermittent pressure, and the full speed range to ensure volumetric efficiency and output torque meet OEM standards.

Key Technical Advantages

1. No Case Drain Required — System Cost Optimization

The TB Series’ most significant design innovation is the complete elimination of external case drain requirements. While conventional orbit motors require a dedicated drain circuit with check valves and extra plumbing, the TB Series employs a patented high-pressure shaft seal with continuous oil flow internal cooling and flushing — naturally balancing case pressure without external drains. This directly reduces hose, fitting, and installation labor costs for machine builders, with a decisive advantage in space-constrained compact drive systems. In wet environments such as automatic car washes, the elimination of drain lines also reduces leakage risk.

2. Roller Vane Technology with Automatic Wear Compensation

The TB Series employs a roller vane rotor set design in which rolling vanes travel along the stator curve, dramatically reducing internal friction losses compared to conventional gear-type configurations. Roller vane technology provides automatic wear compensation — even after extended operation, the clearance between vanes and stator curve remains minimized, ensuring sustained high volumetric efficiency. The zero leak commutation valve further enhances volumetric efficiency consistency.

3. DU and Sintered Copper/Steel Bushings for High Side Load Capacity

The TB Series output shaft is supported by DU (PTFE-impregnated bronze) and sintered copper/steel composite bushings, capable of withstanding dynamic side loads up to 4900 N (1100 lb) at the 1-inch shaft diameter. This bearing configuration allows the motor to directly drive chain sprockets, belt pulleys, and other mechanisms subject to significant radial forces without additional bearing housings — particularly suited for conveyor and gear box drive applications. Continuous oil flow across internal splines and seals extends the service life of the drive train.

4. Smooth Extra-Low-Speed Operation and High Power Density

The TB Series combines a precision roller vane rotor set with a zero leak commutation valve, maintaining stable torque output at extremely low speeds — free from stick-slip or pulsation. The cast iron housing provides excellent rigidity and durability, and models across the series deliver up to 14.8 HP in a compact package. The TB Series is designed and manufactured at Parker’s Greeneville, Tennessee facility in the USA, with every motor built to high-quality design and manufacturing standards.

Expert Maintenance Tips

Installation Guidelines:

  • Before installation, verify system oil cleanliness meets NAS Class 9 or better. Although the TB Series roller vane and zero leak commutation valve design is less contamination-sensitive than shaft-distribution designs, clean oil remains essential for long-term reliability. Install a 10μm filter upstream of the motor inlet.

  • When leveraging the TB Series’ no-case-drain feature to simplify plumbing, confirm case pressure does not exceed the shaft seal rating. No drain circuit is required during installation, but ensure system back-pressure does not exceed the shaft seal’s design limit.

  • Shaft alignment between motor and load must be within 0.05mm. The TB Series uses DU and sintered copper/steel bushing supports. While these offer excellent side load capacity, misalignment accelerates bushing wear. Use a flexible coupling — rigid connections are not permitted.

  • During initial commissioning, run at no more than 30% of maximum working pressure for at least 30 minutes of no-load break-in to allow the roller vane and stator curve interfaces to seat properly.

Operational Maintenance:

  • Normal operating oil temperature should not exceed 82°C (180°F). Monitor motor case temperature regularly; if abnormally high, prioritize checking internal wear or system internal leakage.

  • Use premium anti-wear hydraulic oil with viscosity maintained at 20-43 cSt at operating temperature. When used in wet environments such as automatic car washes, pay particular attention to monitoring oil water content and check for emulsification regularly.

  • Inspect volumetric efficiency every 2,000 hours or every 12 months. If efficiency drops by more than 10% of rated value, disassemble and inspect the roller vane rotor set and commutation valve assembly.

  • The TB Series DU and sintered copper/steel bushings are maintenance-free by design. However, under high side load conditions, inspect bushing wear every 12 months.
